The 11th edition of the Kankaria Carnival is here, and like every year, it is full of activities and cultural programmes. But there is one more reason to visit the festival this year and it is fitness, around which several activities have been planned. The seven-day carnival will kick off on December 25, 2018.
"Like every year, this year, too, the carnival extravaganza is going to be memorable for citizens," said Amul Bhatt, standing committee chairman. "There are different cultural programmes lined up for the evenings. For mornings, there are Zumba, Aerobics and Yoga sessions scheduled,"
The morning activity will start at 7am and trained instructors will conduct sessions, said the chairman. There will be daily puppet shows, magic shows and a blood donation camp. Other day events will include horse shows and musical performances by schools kids.
"To make a difference and encourage people to cycle, there will be a councillors' cycle rally on the third day of the carnival. Laser shows will be one of the main attractions of the event which will be showcased at 10pm," added a senior official.
The carnival has lost its shine, claimed the Congress party, and demanded that money should not be wasted on such programmes. "The BJP-run AMC should not have such programmes. Rather they should revoke the imposed entry fee at the Lakefront. They are syphoning off around Rs 2 to 3 crore every year for such events which are unnecessary," said Badruddin Shaikh.
Sattvik food fest from today
City’s largest food festival, 16th Sattvik food festival, will begin on Saturday. Spanning over four days, the festival will have at least two dishes made of millets at every stall. For the first time, the festival will have over 70% participation from women farmers who will be selling products.
