They tell police that they had wanted bodyguards to protect themselves from rival gangs

After the recent death of two prominent leaders of the eunuch community, Sonia De and Sanju De, some of them have started hiring bodyguards to protect themselves from rival gangs. In order to gain control of the city, these groups are constantly at loggerheads with each other, which has resulted in frequent clashes. On Tuesday four eunuchs were arrested by Satellite police who also recovered weapons from their bodyguards whom they had hired for protection.

On Tuesday afternoon, Ashok Jingar, a constable with Satellite police, was passing near Ashok Vatika on Bopal-Ambali road with another cop on a bike. Jingar saw a parked rickshaw with five well built men sitting inside it, near Gallops Mall. He stopped his bike and approached the men to ask them what they were doing there.

Jingar learned that the men had been summoned there by some eunuchs, who were following them in another rickshaw. As Jingar stood with the men, another constable searched the rickshaw and found a sword and three sticks hidden inside a bag.

Meanwhile, four eunuchs came there in their auto. However, in the meantime, the bodyguards ran from the spot.

Jingar immediately informed JM Bharwad, Sr police inspector of Satellite, who rushed to the spot and took custody of the eunuchs, auto driver and weapons.

After primary investigation, the eunuchs told the police that they belong to the Bhavna De gang and they were constantly threatened by their arch rival, the Nitu De gang. Initially, the eunuchs, Renuka, Komal, Jyoti and Babita, refused to confess that they had hired the bodyguards. After constant persuasion, however, they admitted that they had hired the toughies. "Even after the compromise, they used to beat us up frequently. Two days back, they had thrashed us. We are sorry for hiring bodyguards," aplogised Renuka.

But the cops did not accept apologies and booked them for helping the five men. The police have learnt that all the men were from Sohrab compound area in Juna Vadaj, and came to Satellite to guard the eunuchs. "Two of them were identified, one was Gatti aka Gattu and another was Mahendra. We have taken details from the auto driver and sent our teams to arrest them," said Bharwad.
