Gir sanctuary lions screened: Gujarat government

The forest department says blood samples of 40 lions, in addition to the 33 that had been isolated, spread over 240 sq km of the sanctuary have also been sent

The state government in a release said that around 150 teams made up of 600 staff members of the forest department have completed the screening of the lions in the Gir Forest range. 

The Dalkhaniya range of Gir (East) had reported the death of 23 lions, majority of whom succumbed to infection including CDV. The department said blood samples of 40 lions, in addition to the 33 that had been isolated, spread over 240 sq km of the sanctuary have also been sent.
