Delhi-bound GoAir flight G8 -102 departed from Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport at 2:20 pm. Immediately after take-off, the pilot notice smoke emitted from the aircraft and contacted the Air traffic control (ATC). The pilot maneuvered the aircraft safely and made an emergency landing around 2:30 pm.

All 168 persons on board were safe.

However, GoAir in a statement has denied that smoke was detected in the flight.

A GoAir spokesperson said, “There was no smoke detected on GoAir flight".

"GoAir would like to clarify that flight G8 102 from Kolkata to Delhi did a "precautionary" air turn back shortly after takeoff owing to a technical glitch. There was no "smoke" whatsoever."

"After turn back, the flight landed safely at Netaji Subhash Chandra International airport in Kolkata with 168 passengers on board. Upon landing, all passengers were transferred to alternate aircraft and departed for Delhi," a GoAir spokesperson said.

"The earlier aircraft has been put back into service following an inspection and rectification by the GoAir engineering team. At GoAir, safety of our passengers and crew is of paramount importance and the airline sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused to its passengers," the statement added.

In June this year, GoAir flight G8 586 was flying from Patna to Mumbai when a technical glitch forced it to make an emergency landing in Aurangabad.

In February, another Kolkata-bound GoAir flight was forced to turn back to Ahmedabad after suffering mid-air technical snag on Wednesday. The plane, which had 185 passengers on board, made a safe emergency landing at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport.
