Gujarat Assembly's leader of opposition and Congress MLA from Amreli, Paresh Dhanani defended Alpesh Thakor. Dhanani was addressing a press conference on Tuesday at his office and said that BJP was pinched by Alpesh Thakor's bitter truth and hence was trying to indict him in cases of violence.
Dhanani said, "Alpesh Thakor was pressurised by BJP leaders on this issue so that he joins BJP soon. But our legislator did not succumb to the pressure. Because BJP government has failed on multiple fronts, it has been trying to create panic among citizens. Now, when BJP has been left with a taste of sour grapes, they have resorted to this kind of destructive kind of practices."
Dhanani blamed Gujarat government and central government's policies for closing industrial units. He said, "The industrialists were forced to keep their units shut because of wrong steps and policies of state and central government like demonetisation and GST. That has broke the backbone of industries and therefore people are losing jobs here."
Surprisingly, when Dhanani was asked that why Congress did not take any action or sought explanation from Alpesh Thakor for his provoking speech, Dhanani defended Thakor and stood by with his stand.
"When Gujarat government has failed to ensure employment to local youth and is pretending that 80% jobs were secured for local youths in industries, it is their responsibility to see that youth is not diverted to wrong path. Alpesh should not be held responsible for violence," he added.
Dhanani also said that the Congress workers or leaders who indulged into hate speeches on social media would be punished under disciplinary actions.
