47 vans have been sold to Maharashtra, 2 to Delhi and 11 to Gujarat government

High-tech mobile forensic vans designed by the Gujarat Forensic Sciences University (GFSU) will soon be crossing borders. After providing a number of such vans, which are highly useful to conduct an investigation on spot, to different states, countries like Nepal and Seychelles have expressed interest to buy the vehicles.

"We have recently got a requisition from Nepal. In fact, Seychelles has also expressed interest in buying these vans. During the recent visit of Seychelles President to our university, he mentioned the same," JM Vyas, Director General, GFSU said.

We have sold 47 vans to Maharashtra, 2 to Delhi and 11 to Gujarat government, Vyas added.

Interestingly, Vyas had mentioned about the same during the 4th convocation held on Thursday before Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was the chief guest of the event.

Mobile forensic van

The high tech vehicle empowers its staff to carry out an investigation at the crime spot with all the necessary technology at their disposal. The vehicle was designed in 2012 with help with Mumbai-based company Helik Advisory Ltd.

Mobile forensic van helps in reaching the crime scene at the earliest to assist the investigating officers in identifying and collecting relevant forensic evidence from the crime scene, victims and from suspects which are the primary sources of forensic evidence. The vans cost at Rs 35-40 lakhs.

In 2014, the University had also designed Nirbhaya van that included kits for semen-hair-saliva detection tests, blood grouping and even DNA profiling, dedicated only for women related cases.

Recently, the Ministry of Human Resource Development approved the special grant of Rs 20 crores to the University to develop infrastructure.
