The Gujarat High Court on Monday came to the rescue of a 30-year-old woman, who was forced to stay on the streets after her in-laws allegedly ousted her from their home post her husband's death.
The woman, Draupadi Purohit, had initially approached the police with her complaint, but as it usually happens with the poor, the complaint was not registered. It was then that somebody told her to approach the high court for justice.

It also ordered the state and Gujarat State Legal Services Authority (GSLSA) to provide her with the required legal assistance. After coming out of the court, Draupadi told DNA that her mother-in-law, sister-in-law and brother-in-law used to torture her frequently after the death of her husband. She said that her in-laws also threatened her of dire consequences if she does not leave the house. Fed-up of the regular harassment, she left her matrimonial home in Tharad taluka of Banaskantha.
Meanwhile, counsel for the state government Chintan Dave told DNA that the government has made arrangement for Draupadi's stay in Chandlodia woman shelter home. He said the woman had not eaten anything during the entire day and therefore, the state also made arrangement for her food.
