Making a scathing allegation on the Gujarat state government’s methods of ensuring education for the needy, especially in Centre-sponsored schemes like the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyaan, Gujarat Congress says that crores of rupees allotted to the state have not been utilised fully and effectively. Because of this, a lot of children have been denied the basic right to education.
GPCC spokesperson Manish Doshi said in a statement that in last 10 years, the central government has allotted Rs1,36,035.88 lakh, out of which Gujarat government has spent only Rs46,166.30 lakh and Rs32,554.846 lakh respectively behind education in 26 districts and four major cities. Shockingly, most of the amount has been utilised for civil work etc.
“The government does not care of the poor children and their education. Their rights are violated despite the UPA’s Right to Education Act because of the state government’s callous education policy,” Doshi said.
He added that in the accounting year of 2008-09, the state government’s annual report officially published reveals that only 28 % of fund allocation from Vadodara; 21% of Surat; 35% of Rajkot and 69% of Ahmedabad’s allocation under the SSA have been utilised.
