The Metropolitan court on Wednesday adjourned a hearing of the Rs 100 crore defamation case filed by BJP president Amit Shah's son Jay against a news portal for October 16.
The lawyer for Jay Shah sought time from the Metro court stating that senior advocate SV Raju could not remain present in court as he was busy in the High Court. The court granted time and adjourned the hearing to October 16.
Jay had filed a criminal defamation case against a news portal on October 9 over a report that the turnover of a company owned by him had seen its turnover go up by 16,000 times from Rs 50,000 to over Rs 80 crore within a year.
"The defamatory article is scandalous, frivolous, misleading, derogatory, libellous and consists of several defamatory statements against the complainant. The article is a character assassination of the complainant without any verification, authenticity and/or reasonable due diligence," his petition stated.
The report had led to a major political storm with the Congress demanding an inquiry by two sitting Supreme Court judges into the episode, while the BJP called it politically motivated.
