One swine flu patient dies, 95 new cases in Gujarat

There is still no respite from swine flu, as one more patients succumbed to the H1N1 virus on Friday, taking the total number of swine flu deaths this year to 97.

The state health department said in a release that 95 new cases of seasonal flu were reported in the state today. With these, the number of confirmed swine flu cases in the state since January 1, 2019, touched 3,112.

The number of swine flu cases in Ahmedabad city is nearing 1,000, i.e. almost one-third of the total cases. As of February 28, the number of such cases in the city was 924. This went up to 956 with 32 more cases getting confirmed on Friday.

Health department said that 12 cases were reported today in Bhavnagar city and eight in Bhavnagar rural. Five cases were confirmed in Junagadh, and four in Rajkot city.

Three cases each were confirmed in Mehsana, Amreli, and Jamnagar city, and two each in Kutch, Anand, Banaskantha, Rajkot, Ahmedabad rural, Aravalli, Gandhinagar, and Kheda.

Surat city, Sabarkantha, Patan, Devbhumi Dwarka, Junagadh city, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Morbi, and Gir Somnath reported one-one case.

The release added that 853 patients are undergoing treatment, whereas 2,164 have recovered so far.

As of February 24, Gujarat was third in terms of swine flu cases after Rajasthan and Delhi, while it was second after Rajasthan in terms of death.
