For the scientific closure of landfill site Pirana, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to rope in Tata Consultancy. The firm has been shortlisted by the Gujarat Urban Development Mission.
Once the work is completed the consultancy firm will get 1.30 per cent fees of the total project fees.
In the proposed work file presented before the Heath and Solid Waste Committee on Monday, had mentioned that in 2016 a Detailed Project Report (DPR) was compiled by the expert agency IL&FS. The DPR prepared by the firm was Rs375 crore. The chairman has withheld the work for the next meeting.
During the period of 2015 to 2016 the civic body had invited proposal from the private companies for bio-mining of garbage hill. Then three companies were finalised, but later on, they too were disqualified as they failed to fullfil all the criteria listed by the civic body.
Later, it was decided that the civic body will go with the capping of the site and a DPR has been approved by the central government. Now, the debt-ridden IL&FS is out of the project. And, the civic body will share the existing DPR with the newly roped firmed and will ask them to prepare a revised DPR.
The Pirana landfill site is more than 40 years old and has accumulated more than 70 lakh metric tonnes of waste over the years. The landfill site has been spread across 84 acres of land.
