Police blocked the entire riverfront road on Tuesday as a safety measure after water released from Dharoi dam caused the Sabarmati River to overflow.
All roads connecting to the Riverfront were blocked to the public and no vehicle was allowed entry on the route.
Police personnel were also deployed at the six bridges to prevent people from flocking to these places to watch the rising water levels.
Diversion of vehicles led to heavy traffic congestion across the city. Ashram Road, Dafnala Crossroads, Paldi Crossroads, NID Road, Vadja Circle, RTO Circle, Subhash Bridge were all choc-a-block with traffic.
In-charge JCP, traffic, Sudhir Desai said, “It was obvious that the traffic congestion would occur as all connecting roads to the Riverfront were blocked. But, no major jams were witnessed .Traffic movement had slowed down due to rains.”
