The new year will be good. But, it will also throw up lots of challenges for the country. This prediction was made by astrologers of the city. So, the arrival of the new year (according to the Hindu calendar) may bring fresh hope for the state and the country at large. This comes close on the heels of tragedies like Muzaffarnagar riots and Patna blasts. “After several years, Dhanteras falls on Friday and Diwali on Sunday which is very auspicious,” said Mahendra Pandya, president of the Akhil Gujarat Astrological Society. Explaining why it is auspicious, he said Friday, the day of Goddess Lakshmi (goddess of wealth), also marks Dhanteras. Similarly, Sunday, i.e. Ravivaar is a day of Lord Surya, who removes darkness from the world. “On the day of Diwali, too, darkness is eradicated by bright diyas. So, the start of the year will have negativity replaced by positivity,” stated Pandya. The astrologer also said that for the common man, the year brings good news as the share market would be bullish and inflation/price rise would stabilise post-June 2014. Ashwin Trivedi, who is into astrology for 31 years, said after June 29, the country is likely to experience natural calamities like earthquake or cyclone, which could put the government in jeopardy. “Due to the shani (Saturn) raashi, the country will witness sudden events especially natural calamities. There are also chances of major scams by government or religious institutions coming to light. Also, before June, the period will be quite progressive for the state,” said Trivedi. Echoing a similar opinion on scams, Dr Pankaj Nagar, another astrologer from the city, said: “A lot of financial scams as well as those scams related to religious saints and leaders will get exposed. So, this year, especially between February and September 2014, we can say that lots of scams will be unearthed.” All the Amdavad astrologers will come together on the day of Labh Pacham (November 8) to discuss how the year ahead would pan out for the state.
