Shop owner throws hot oil at Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation officials

The Solid Waste Management Team of the east zone were on their routine inspection near Nirant Crossroads, Vastral locality where they found an eatery owner violating norms of sanitation on Thursday.

The officials of Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation who were on a regular inspection were in for a shock when a shop owner hurled hot oil on them.

"The shop owner was using banned plastic and there were several issues pertaining to the sanitation and hygiene. The team inquired about usage of plastic below 50 microns. This was followed by a verbal spat," said Harshad Solanki, director of Solid Waste Management.

"He then tried to hit the team members. After that, the shop owner went on to hurl hot burning oil on our team. But fortunately none of the team members were severely injured," said the director.

Post the incident, health committee chairman and other officers rushed to the spot. The team later lodged a complaint with Ramol Police Station against shop owner, Shiji Dalwada.

According to the officials, the incident of this kind took place for the first time. However the team working with Cattle Nuisance and Control Department have often been victim of public wrath while capturing abandon cattle. "Our staff members were on duty and were working as per the guidelines," said Solanki.
