There are 29 lakh vehicles in Ahmedabad, which are yet to install high security registration plates (HSRP). So far, people were acquiring them from the Regional Transport Office of Ahmedabad and some other vehicle dealers in the city. To fast track the work, they will be joining hands with the police department.
On Tuesday, the Road Safety Commission, Regional Transport officer of Ahmedabad, and Ahmedabad Traffic Joint Commissioner of Police held a meeting to find a solution to the HSRP issue in the city. During the meeting, the RTO proposed to open HSRP centres within the 47 police stations in the city, so that people can install their plates without having to go to the RTO.
GS Parmar, RTO of Ahmedabad, said, "We are planning to start HSRP centres at the city police station so that police vehicles without HSRP can get them installed sooner. Also, people in the respective areas will be able to get it done more quickly, too.
This will reduce the workload at the RTO, as the entire city comes to the RTO to install the plates. If 48 police stations now provide this facility, almost every area will have a centre of its own."
The peoposal will likely materialise by this year itself. HSRP installation equipment and will be provided by the HSRP company to the police stations and the procedural work will be done by the employees of the company.
