The Congress party, which gave tough competition to BJP in the Gujarat Assembly elections, is currently grappling with internal feud.

The battle has intensified to such an extent among senior leaders that Congress President Rahul Gandhi has given an ultimatum to them. According to sources, Rahul has asked senior leaders to clean up their act soon, as Lok Sabha elections are barely a few months away.

Sources said, Rahul Gandhi also instructed state president Amit Chavda and Leader of Opposition in the state, Paresh Dhanani, to sort out their mutual differences within a month and a half.

The Congress president has warned them with strong actions and changing the party leadership if they fail to comply.

During the meeting, it was decided that Congress will reward leaders who are doing good work in the grassroots to strengthen the party organisation.

The party has also decided to appoint leaders in important positions in an effort to placate their grievances. A formal announcement will be soon made regarding this development.

According to sources, Congress is looking to appoint 20 State VP, 30 state General Secretary, 125 Pradesh Mantree and 12 state spokesperson.  The meeting was held Wednesday where Gujarat state leaders invited Rahul Gandhi to visit state next month.

Surprisingly, in the last state election, Congress managed to put up a spirited performance winning 80 seats out of 182. Even as many Congress bigwigs lost, the party managed to break into many traditional BJP strongholds. At that time, pundits believed Congress would give a good fight in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

In the last Lok Sabha election, Congress was swept by the Modi wave and drew a blank. Gujarat has 26 Lok Sabha seats and BJP would like to repeat their 2014 results. To avoid that, a united Congress is the need of the hour and hence Rahul Gandhi is desperate to get the house in order.
