Sports complex in 45,000 sq mt area to come up in western Ahmedabad

The complex will be a part of the Sabarmati Riverfront. The AMC has already released a work order for the project.

Aiming to make the city a sports hub as deciding the budget for the next year, Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) will set up several sports complexes.

The largest one is likely to come up at the western part of city, sprawling over 45,000 sq mt. The complex will be a part of the Sabarmati Riverfront. The AMC has already released a work order for the project.

Also, the construction order of two sports complexes was given to M Patel infrastructure Limited on January 28, 2019, who was the lowest bidder for the work. For this, AMC is going to invest Rs 25.66 crore. The civic body officials also informed that professional coaches will be roped in for training.

According to the municipal commissioner Vijay Nehra, chief minister Vijay Rupani is going to perform a groundbreaking ceremony on Saturday. Addressing a press conference on Friday, the commissioner said that to host different sports activities AMC is coming up with sports complexes.

Sharing further details about the project, deputy municipal commissioner RK Mehta said a sports complex will come up behind NID.

This will have an open area for various sports like 4 cricket pitches, five tennis courts, skating rink, etc. This track will have 800 mt jogging track.

"Another sports complex will come up in eastern part behind Shahpur. This one will have four cricket pitches, two tennis courts, jogging track, parking and utility building," said Mehta.

Multi-level parking

Chief Minister is also supposed to lay the foundation stone for multi-level parking at Riverfront. Also, a parking slot is planned over 8,710 sq mt near the newly constructed hospital there. The facility will have six floors and could accommodate more than 1000 cars. Every floor of the parking will have charging points for electric vehicles. The parking will come up at a cost of Rs60 crore.
