To demonstrate support for environment protection on Earth Day, Centre for Environment Education (CEE) has planned a series of competitions for school teachers and students today. More awareness will be created among students on areas such as energy, water, transport and e-waste through painting competition.

Over 200 students will participate in the competition at (CEE). “There will also be a photography workshop for students of class 6-9 that will help them to learn the basics of photography and to weave a story with pictures. Consumption Habits will be the theme of the topic,” said Ketki Gadre, programme officer at CEE.

She further said that there will also be an inter-school quiz competition for teachers, where seven schools will be participating and each school will have two teachers.

“The questions will be based on ‘Sustainable Consumption and Climate Change’ and these programmes will spread awareness about the environment amongst communities, citizens etc,” said Gadre.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Science city will screen an IMAX 3-D movie called ‘Walking in the sea,’ that would talk about the sea life and the variety that exists in the marine environment.

“Apart from that, around 33 students from class X from 33 districts of the state have been gathered to take an action-oriented approach towards environmental education. There will also be a guided tour to Planet Earth for the students,” said Narottam Sahoo, senior scientist at Gujarat Science City.
