A 17-year-old married woman committed suicide at her residence in Bharwadwas area of Vastrapur. Puja Sodha, mother of two children, was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her house, the Vastrapur police said. Local people learned of her suicide at around 11 pm and informed the police.
When her parents, who stay in Jamnagar, learned about their daughter’s suicide, they rushed to Ahmedabad and told the police that Puja was still a minor — only 17 years and 10 months old — when she died. Police also learned that she has two children from her marriage, both girls.
According to her father, Bhagwan Sindhi, Puja had eloped from Jamnagar in 2009 with their neighbour, 23-year-old Pravin Sodha and got married to him. The couple had then come to Ahmedabad.
Since Puja was a minor at the time, her parents had filed a complaint against Sodha with the Jamnagar police. After that, Sodha was declared wanted .
On the basis of the information provided by Sindhi, Vastrapur police have initiated an investigation in the matter.
