The celebration of Janmashtami, which falls on September 3, will be a three-day affair beginning September 1 at the Iskcon temple this year, temple officials said on Wednesday.
A Krishna village theme park has been set up in the temple for the first time as a part of the celebration. The park has 20 stalls comprising the Krishna movie theatre, selfie point, spiritual Q&A section, children's playground, puppet show, and magic show among others. Drawing and painting competitions have also been organised for the children.
On Janmashtami, the festivities will commence at 4:30 am with mangala aarti, kirtan, japa yajna, followed by a puja at 8:00 am. The temple said that a discourse on shri Krishna leela, chhapan bhog darshan, hindola darshan, and akhand harinaam sankirtan would also take place throughout the day.
The abhishek ceremony will be performed at midnight amid Vedic chants, while the maha aarti will be performed at 1:00 am.
The temple will also celebrate Nandotsava the day after with festivities starting at 8:00 am. Matki phod ceremony and other programmes will be held during the day.
The Hare Krishna temple in Bhadaj will also celebrate Janmashtami starting with darshan, maha abhishekam, swarna rathotsava, bhajan and a dance drama by Darpana Academy of Performing Arts under the aegis of Mallika Sarabhai, followed by maha mangala aarti at midnight.
