Addressing a public meeting in Vadodara on April 3, Shrivastav had allegedly threatened people of dire consequences if they did not vote for BJP in the Lok Sabha elections.

The Vadodara rural police said on Friday that it has begun a probe into the alleged threat speech of BJP MLA Madhu Shrivastav.

The development came a day after Vadodara district election officer Shalini Agrawal let off the BJP legislator with a stern warning for the speech, and wrote to police to take a call on appropriate legal action against him.

"We have received the letter from Vadodara DEO. We have started looking into the matter. Since it is related to elections, the probe will be done on a top priority basis," Vadodara SP Tarun Duggal told DNA.

Addressing a public meeting in Vadodara on April 3, Shrivastav had allegedly threatened people of dire consequences if they did not vote for BJP in the Lok Sabha elections. Responding to a notice issued to him by Vadodara DEO for violating the Model Code of Conduct, Shrivastav claimed he did not intend to or threaten voters, and said that the issue had arisen because his Gujarati was not very good.

While stating that his explanation was not acceptable, the DEO let him off with a stern warning, and also asked him to be careful in the future.
