Jeffrey Jones, the mayor of Paterson City in the US, visited Surat and met government officials in a bid to do business with Surat and attract investors. Jones, who is on a two-day tour, met the authorities of the Surat Municipal Corporation and the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI). He also satisfied his taste buds by gorging on authentic Gujarati food. An American Business Corner was inaugurated by Jones in Surat and later, he visited several diamond-polishing units, too. The mayor then made a short presentation explaining business prospects in Paterson to the diamond businessmen. “Paterson is 10 times cheaper than New York and it would be an ideal place for diamond businessmen to establish office there. We are going to build a Surat Bhavan in Paterson along with a hotel. Surat has all the indications of a rapidly growing city. Hence, we are deeply interested in developing business with the city,” said Jones. The mayor also promised to take all possible steps, including making representation at concerned offices in the US, to develop strong ties with Surat.
