Wonderful kites of more than 100 participants filled the sky with colours during International Kite Festival that kick started on Sunday at Riverfront ground in city. Participants from 45 countries and 13 states across India exhibited their art-of-kite design and flying to citizens making their weekend cherishing.
Gujarat Governor OP Kohli and Chief Minister Vijay Rupani inaugurated the event, in which more than 151 participants, including from the United States, the United Kingdom, Cambodia and Nepal came.
Kites in the shape of tiger, aliens, dinosaurs, serpents, birds, dragons, animation characters like Ganesha, Chhota Bheem, human figures and other drew a heavy footfall. The festival is celebrated every year by Gujarat government and tourism department during the festival of Uttarayana or Makar Sankranti that falls on January 14 and coinciding with Vibrant Gujarat Summit, a biennial event of investment summit .
Inaugurating the event, the governor OP Kohli said, "Our festivals and culture are attached with moods of human being and nature. The sun transit in Capricorn constellation on the occasion of Makar Sankranti and that infuses new energy in all creatures. This festival is about doing away with the idleness of chilling winter walking towards activeness of springs."
The governor also complimented citizens for the new year and directed them to live with peace, love and harmony with eachother. Rupani said "The festival of Uttarayan has become an integral brand of Gujarat. This also run an economic cycle very well in society as it provides employment to thousands of Muslim artisans who prepare kites in Gujarat every year."
