The statement came a day after GCA vice-president Parimal Nathwani reviewed the progress of the stadium's construction work. Nathwani was accompanied by GCA joint secretary Jay Shah, who is the son of BJP president and GCA president Amit Shah, and other members of the Association. Officials of L&T, which is constructing the stadium, were also present during the review.

Being built at Motera at a cost of Rs 700 crore, the stadium will have the capacity to accommodate 1.10 lakh spectators. It will beat Melbourne Cricket Stadium, which has capacity of a little over 1 lakh spectators.

"The construction work is going on in full swing as per the schedule and we expect the stadium to be ready within the stipulated time period. The stadium will add one more attraction to Ahmedabad," Nathwani said.

The stadium's construction started in January 2017, and the aim was to complete it in two years, GCA had said at that time. Spread over approximately 63 acre, the stadium will have a Clubhouse with 50 to 55 rooms and an Olympic-size swimming pool. It will also have three practice grounds for cricketers as well as an indoor cricket academy for providing coaching to young players.
