When asked “What is UG Krishnamurti?” the I-Ching replied: “He’s not a guru, not a priest and not a savant. He has no interest in enlightening you and in fact does not intend to do anything. He burns with passion and without purpose.”
More? Often when your head reels with the roller-coaster ride that UG puts you on, and you moan, “Oh God!” he pipes up, “Why bring that guy into it? What has he got to do with anything?”
No God, no teaching, no spiritual salvation, no hope. On the contrary, UG demolishes everything you’ve ever stood for. Once, he told me, “Unless humankind comes to terms with the blunt truth that it is no more important than the mosquito or the field rat, it is doomed.”
He also said, “Whatever I say cannot be used to promote myself or promote any cause for the welfare of mankind. What I say undermines the very foundation of human thought. When this body drops dead it will be recycled by nature just like a garden slug to enrich the soil. If you want comfort, go to the gurus. They will sell it to you. I don’t give a damn for all the teachers that existed before me. They conned the whole of mankind and we’re all going to pay a heavy price for their con-game.”
Courage! Unheldback, furious, certain courage—that’s what distinguishes UG for me. No one in the history of the world has had the courage to blast authority the way he has.
When I look back at my life with its successes, failures and endless errors, I know that had it not been for UG, I probably would not be in a position to write this. And yet he fiercely rejects taking any credit for whatever I’ve achieved in my life. Once I asked him, “Is there nothing you want from me?” He replied, “Only one thing. After I’m dead and gone there should be no trace of me inside of you and outside of you.”
