Five persons lost their lives and seven were injured in three accidents in the city on Saturday morning.
In the first incident, a car with 10 persons rammed onto a lorry on Bellary Road near airport trumpet at 4.30am. Three persons were killed and seven were injured in the accident. The deceased are the driver Umesh, 26, of Devanahalli; Farooq Abdulla, 20; and Khasaiah, 54, both residents of Bharathinagar, near Yelahanka.
Except the driver, all the nine persons in the car were daily-wage labourers. They had hired the car and gone to Andhra Pradesh to visit a dargah. While returning to Bangalore, their car rammed onto the lorry that was going in front of them. Abdulla, who was on the front seat, died on the spot. The driver and Khasaiah died en route to hospital. The seven injured persons, including a 10-year-old girl, were taken to Columbia Asia Hospital, MS Ramaiah Hospital and Victoria Hospital.
Deputy commissioner of police (traffic-west) V Ramaiah said postmortem of the deceased was done in MS Ramaiah Hospital and the bodies were handed over to their relatives. Khasaiah’s body has been kept in mortuary as his son stays in Dubai and autopsy would be done only after he arrives.
In another incident, a 31-year-old man died after he fell from his motorcycle near Dairy Circle. The deceased, MD Chengappa, was a resident of NAL Quarters and a sales executive in a private firm.
The police said he was riding his motorcycle without wearing a helmet. Near Dairy Circle, on Bannerghatta Road, he lost balance and fell, sustaining injuries on his head and abdomen. He was taken to a nearby hospital but succumbed about 6am. The body was handed over to his family after postmortem. The police said he had got married only five months ago.
Also, a courier company employee was killed in a road accident on ITPL Road when a lorry hit the motorcycle he was riding from behind. The deceased, Prathap, was a resident of Hoody and a native of Mandya. The accident happened about 9am, when he was going to his office.
He fell on the road after the lorry hit his two-wheeler. The rear wheel of the lorry ran over his head, killing him on the spot. The police seized the lorry and arrested the driver.
