Unknown miscreants killed a 26-year-old woman and seriously injured her husband in front of a scrap shop on Hosur Road on Thursday midnight.

The woman’s name is yet to be ascertained. The man has been identified as Chamaraju, 40. He sustained serious head injuries and is undergoing treatment at Nimhans. The couple had visited a scrap shop belonging to Kadiriyappan at Beretena Agrahara on Hosur Road on Thursday evening. They requested the shopowner to let them sleep in front of the shop. After dinner, the duo slept in front of the shop.

At 1.30am, Kadiriyappan, who lives next to his shop, heard some noise and came out of his house. He saw some unidentified persons stooping over the couple. They fled when Kadiriyappan raised an alarm. When he went to check on the couple, he found both lying in a pool of blood.

He immediately called the police, who shifted Chamaraju to hospital and his wife’s body to a mortuary.

The police said the reason behind the murder is not known yet, but they were suspecting that the miscreants might have killed them hoping that they had money or gold jewellery. Also, the police said the culprits might have tried to sexually assault the woman after injuring her husband.

The police have registered a case of murder and attempt to murder.
