An upcoming actress attempted suicide by consuming over 50 tablets prescribed to treat diabetes and blood pressure at her house on Tuesday, reportedly upset over her boyfriend releasing some photographs of hers to the media.

Twenty-two-year-old Vindhya, a resident of Agrahara Dasarahalli off Magadi Road, is currently undergoing treatment in the ICU of Bowring Hospital. She played the female lead in the Kannada film Manada Mareyali, which is to be released yet.

According to police, Vindhya was in love with a man named Manjunath, who claimed to be an event manager. She had met him at a party and they fell in love. They even went to Delhi, Shimla and other places with a group of friends recently, and after returning they parted ways.

Subsequently, Manjunath allegedly released some photos of Vindhya and him to a section of media. Upset over this, Vindhya consumed the tablets and fell unconscious.

Vindhya hails from Shimoga and her parents, Rangaswamy and Nagamma, are visually challenged. Rangaswamy works at the Bangalore Turf Club and Nagamma runs a telephone booth at Bowring Hospital. After completing PUC, Vindhya entered the film industry as a small-time actor.

Speaking to reporters, Rangaswamy alleged that Manjunath was a high school dropout who cheated his daughter by claiming that he was a graduate and was working as an event manager.

“Both of them, along with their friends had gone to Delhi about four months ago. After returning, she had gone to Manjunath’s house, where she learned that he was a high school dropout and had no work. Upset over this, she decided to break up with him. However, Manjunath was pestering my daughter to marry him and as she was reluctant, he released some photos to media. Depressed over this, she took the extreme step,” he said.

However, no police case has been registered in connection with the incident.
