After the price hike of milk, the next shocker for Bangalore will be the rise of auto fares. The auto drivers have already started making the appeals to the government in this regard.

Addressing the rally at Bannappa Circle, BB Raghvendra, general secretary, Autorickshaw Driver’s Union (R) CITU, urged the government to raise the minimum fare of auto rickshaws to Rs24 from the existing Rs17 for the first two kilometres. He further added that due to inflation, the fare should be increased to Rs12 per kilometre.

The rally started from Town Hall and went up to the Bannappa Circle, where the protestors gathered to place their demands in front of the government and the media.

According to the Union, there are about eight lakh auto drivers in the state, and many are deprived of the basic facilities.

They demanded provisions for the family of auto drivers in the field of health, children’s education, shelter, and ration.

They demanded that the educational criteria for getting a driver’s license must not be made mandatory.

The auto drivers also demanded pension and compensation of Rs1 lakh if they die in accidents.
