Parasram alias Paras, 28, and his brother-in-law Nathuram, 25, both residents of Ulsoor, and natives of Rajasthan, have been arrested for breaking into a jewellery shop near Ulsoor police station on the night of June 23. The police have recovered 3.38 kg gold, 15 kg silver articles and one SUV, all worth Rs1.08 crore from them.  Two more persons, who are still on the run, have 750 gram of jewellery with them. Parasram, the mastermind, planned to settle down in Surat. The burglars had drilled a hole in the roof of the store, which is located on the ground floor.

They entered the building through an unlocked rear door and then drilled into the shop from the vacant first floor. The first floor, which earlier housed a restaurant, has been vacant since 2009. Parasram, who then worked in the neighbouring shop, had a fair knowledge about Pooja Jewels. They kept the booty in Nathuram’s room and left for Rajasthan. Parasram chose to stay back here and continued working at Mohini Jewellery shop as usual to keep an eye on the police movement.

After a week, he too left for Rajasthan with some of the stolen jewels. In the meantime, police got to know that Parasram had stopped coming to work without informing his employer. Investigation revealed that Parasram’s brother-in-law Nathuram was arrested by the Cottonpet police one year ago in connection with a theft case.

A police team formed by DCP (east) Chandrasekhar and led by ACP N Narasimhaiah got to know that Parasram was coming to city and arrested him. Another team rushed to Rajasthan and recovered the stolen property. The police have also arrested Nathuram and recovered some property from his room.
