In a bid to bring the academia and industry together, the 25th Annual Students’ Symposium organised by the department of materials engineering at Indian Institute of Science (IISc) will, for the first time, feature interactions between industry heads and students pursuing research.
“This is our silver jubilee celebrations, so it is bigger than ever. We will feature six to seven speakers from the industry in the event and will also have an interactive session where PhD students and Masters students will interact with 50-60 experts from the industry. It’s unprecedented,” said G Hariprasad, a PhD student and convenor of the event.
It will take place on January 12 and January 13.
Among the more prominent speakers will be Mark B Denys, chief (R&D) and scientific services division at Tata Steel, and Dr Raj Raheja, founder and chairman of the semi-conductor company DFMsim and former vice-president of IBM, US.
“Students who are only exposed to academics will get to know the various developments that have taken place in the industry and the industry can also get a glimpse on what’s happening on the academic front,” Hariprasad said.
Apart from getting to interact with industry professionals, 25 senior PhD students will present papers on the development in their research fields.
“We will also have students putting up kiosks, explaining their research work. This event is essentially for students to discuss and track their progress,” said Hariprasad.
