BBMP and Brigade Group to equip it with finest amenities.

An abandoned playground at Milk Colony in Subramanyanagar is set to undergo a transformation to cater to children, as per a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and the Brigade Group.

Once a destination for miscreants indulging in alcohol, drugs and gambling, the playground is now being developed at a cost of Rs3 crore, and is set to be inaugurated on August 15.

The ground, named after Nadaprabhu Kempe Gowda, will have a skating rink, cricket practice pitch, enclosures assigned for karate and yoga, volleyball court, basketball court, children’s play area, stage, synthetic track, and restrooms.

“We have already spent Rs2 crore for the development of the park on the other side of the road. We intend to provide world class facilities without compromising on quality,’’ said a Brigade Group official.

According to Shashikala Kiran S, the corporator representing Subramanyanagar ward, the BBMP had sanctioned Rs2 crore for the playground’s development, but the funds were eventually utilised for other works, even as the Brigade Group was ready to take on the project.

As per the MoU, the Brigade Group will hand over the playground to the BBMP after three years.   According to Kiran, the playground will be a boon for people not only from Milk Colony, but also nearby areas such as Mahalakshmipuram and Rajajinagar.  “State-level sports meets can be held here, since it has all requisite facilities,’’ she said.
