Students wanting to study abroad are keen on opting for business studies and economics at the undergraduate level. This was the finding at the Global Education Interact held on Sunday.
“Although engineering remains a popular option, business studies and economics are gaining prominence,” said Bindu Chopra, regional director of The Chopras, organisers of the session.
Enquiries for subjects, such as sports management, marketing, branding, consumer psychology, and luxury goods have also gone up. Media is another option that students going abroad are looking at.
At the post-graduate level, MBA still tops the list. “Since I am from a finance background, the course will be a value addition,” said Samiksha Vijay, a student who wants to study in Singapore.
What is remarkable is that students in Bangalore are well prepared as they do their homework. They have a good network and are well-informed. “Students here know what exactly they want and don’t want,” she said.
During the day-long session, candidates were allowed to look into a few universities. The short-listing of the universities for candidates was done by the counsellors. The cost of studying abroad is anywhere between Rs10 lakh and Rs30 lakh. The most preferred destinations for higher studies are USA, UK, and Australia.
