Though the university has closed admissions, some colleges are still allowing them. BU plans to complete the approval process in a single day.

The Bangalore University (BU) has decided to approve all the admissions to post-graduate (PG) courses made at private colleges affiliated to it in a single day, with a move to curb irregularities.

BU has closed admissions to PG courses for the current academic year. However, some colleges are still allowing admissions.

“Admitting students to PG courses continues till the examinations day. To avoid that, we have decided to approve all admissions at PG admission mela,” said a university official.

According to BU officials, many colleges admit students at the last moment. This happens in courses like MBA and MCA.

“Many professionals have started pursuing MBA and MCA courses and some city-based private colleges are taking advantage of this. A majority of prestigious colleges do this,” said the official.

BU has already filled up the seats in all affiliated colleges and the upcoming mela will only be for private quotas. According to officials, the mela will help find if there were any violations in reservations. The university will be able to complete the approval process in a day.

“Through the mela, we will give a clear message to all the colleges that they cannot come for admission approval after the mela,” said an official.

Last year, BU had conducted an admission mela for undergraduate courses.
