A 10-year-old boy drowned in a disused quarry while his mother was washing clothes on its banks.

Mohsin, a fifth grader of Government School Medehalli, KR Puram, followed his mother to the quarry-turned-pond around 2.30 pm on Sunday. As she became busy washing clothes, she failed to notice Mohsin entering the water, police said.

“After washing the clothes, she turned back and there was no sign of Mohsin. Thinking that  he must have gone back, she returned home,” police said.  Not finding him at home, she and her family searched for him in the area surrounding the pond. They could not find him.

Mohsin’s father Nazir approached the KR Puram police and lodged a missing complaint. The police arrived at the pond and started searching for the missing boy in the pond. Around 5.45 pm, they found the body which was shifted to Ambedkar Hospital for postmortem.

Mohsin had two sisters who were older than him.
