For the time being, say goodbye to musical instruments, and enjoy the musical notes mimicked by thousands of Bangalore’s youngsters, who aim to set a national record in beatboxing.

About 2,500 students from Christ Junior College, under the Christ University, will come together on Monday to create a national beatboxing record, as they will produce various musical notes, akin to that of drum beats, rhythm and other musical sounds, by merely using their mouth, lips, tongue and voice. These students are hoping to enter the Limca Book of Records.

The musical extravaganza will be organised at the Christ University auditorium at 10.30 am. The event titled ‘Can You Say Beat Box?’ will be hosted under the guidance of popular beatboxer Vineeth Vincent.

“The musical feat will be performed in front of the members of the Limca Book of Records, who will be present to record the event. Few gazetted officers from army and government departments will also be attending the event,” said Eben Johnson, a member of the organising committee.

“Our students have been practicing beatboxing for sometime, and we are hopeful of them entering the record book. The Christ University is aiming to hone beatboxing skills of the students by attempting to set a national record,” added Johnson.

Vincent, a Christite (as students of Christ University are addressed as), is one of very few professional beatboxers in the country. Vincent has made his mark at the international level, and has performed with some of the popular international beatboxing performers.

Christ University for long has been a breeding ground for musical talents, and popular musical bands such as Thermal and a Quarter and Galeej Gurus.
