The coastal region has seen two attacks on journalists in less than five days.
The first attack was in Kundapur in Udupi taluk when reporter of Vijayavani Kannada daily Srinath Hegde Hakladi was attacked by three persons, including the office-bearers of the Grama Panchayat on Feburary 2.
The second attack came on Harish Puthran a journalist in the Kannada eveninger Karavali Ale for his article against drug mafia. In the police complaint, the reporter has stated that a few workers of Hindu Jagarana Vedike attacked him with clubs and choppers. He was saved as some persons who knew him rushed to his help when they saw him being attacked.
On Thursday, journalists and activists of a few organisations protested against the attack and termed the incident as an attempt to muffle the press.
