Engineer and site supervisor crushed to death in Bagalore

The duo employed with air-conditioner company Blue Star died after an AC panel being lifted to the 10th floor of the building fell on them from a height.

An engineer and a site supervisor were crushed to death after a one-and-a-half-tonne AC panel fell on them from a crane at an under-construction building in Cessna Tech Park on Outer Ring Road in Marathahalli on Wednesday.

The deceased have been identified as engineer Sunil Kumar, a native of Hyderabad, and site supervisor Arjun, a native of Kerala. Arjun’s head was separated from the body in the accident. Both died on the spot.

The duo was employed with air-conditioner company Blue Star. The mishap occurred when the AC panel was being lifted to the 10th floor of the building. The crane developed a snag and the AC panel fell from a height of 100 feet and the duo was crushed under it.

HAL police were alerted about the tragedy around 7.30 pm. Senior police officers including the jurisdictional DCP Harsha, assistant commissioner of police (Airport sub-division) R Ashok, HAL inspector C Balakrishna rushed to the spot.

The bodies were shifted to Bowring Hospital where the post-mortem will be conducted on Thursday morning. Forensic Science Lab personnel visited the spot to collect evidence.

Police have registered a negligence case against the contractor, the crane owner and the operator. “Relatives of the deceased persons have been informed of the incident,” said DCP Harsha.

Umiya Builders, the developer, had awarded a contract for installing the AC system to Blue Star.
