The Bangalore zonal unit of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) nabbed one Riyaz Ahamed Abdul Sattar Hospet from MG Road, who was in possession of Rs5 lakh of fake currency notes.

He was standing near Hotel Brindavan, when he was picked up last week by police. Senior intelligence officer BG Nanda Kumar, said, “Riyaz claims he was provided with the consignment by a Keralite Haji Azeez, based in Dubai. He was told that a person would collect the bag from him on MG Road.”

The officer said this was the first case where the currency procured was said to be from a Gulf country.

“We suspect Dawood’s D-Company in this case. Many of Dawood’s smugglers have been arrested trying to procure fake Indian currencies through Nepal and Bangladesh borders. This seems to be their new chosen route,” Nanda Kumar said.

The authorities  are also on the lookout for Haji Azeez.
