Owing to maintenance work, there will be partial closure of facilities at Bangalore International Airport (BIA) from March 11 to April 3.
The BIA authorities on Wednesday announced that the closure will take place between 10.30am and 5.30pm during the abovementioned dates. The work pertains to the maintenance of the runway. The BIA authorities said the work would be carried out in a phased manner involving, in certain parts, closure of the runway, and in other parts, partial closure of facilities with minimal impact on airport operations.
The BIA authorities have decided to go ahead with the maintenance work immediately, so as to complete the work before the onset of monsoon in May. The decision has been arrived at in consultation with all the key stakeholders of the BIA, such as domestic and international airlines, Air-Traffic Control, Airport Authority of India and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation.
An official spokesperson of the BIA said they have made the announcement as early as possible to provide airlines sufficient time to schedule their flights and to inform the passengers travelling in this sector accordingly. In close coordination with the Air-Traffic Control, all efforts are also in place to enhance the flight-handling capacity in the hours preceding and following the closure each day. BIA authorities said they have engaged leading consultants to constantly monitor the airfield pavement surface and its performance.
