Gas cylinder explodes; 2 injured in Bangalore

Using small LPG cylinders in houses is illegal, say police.

Two persons were grievously injured when a gas cylinder in their house in the early hours of Thursday.

Altogether, 10 persons were injured in the explosion, which took place in a house in Muniswamappa block in Maitri Bazaar in Hebbal. A group of about 10 persons from Rajasthan stays in that house. All of them are working as carpenters in the city.
The blast took place when one of them woke up about 5.30am and lit a matchstick to prepare tea on gas stove.

Mahaveer and Govardhan have been seriously injured. They sustained burn injuries on about 80% of their body. They were rushed to Victoria Hospital.

The other eight persons sustained about 10%-15% burns.
The police said preliminary investigation suggested that the men had not turned off the stove completely after cooking on Wednesday night.

The police said the accident was not of disastrous proportion as the housemates were using a small LPG cylinder.
In fact, the police said the eight housemates, who sustained 10%-15% burns, took the other two to hospital.
However, clothes and other material kept in the house were gutted.

The police said using small cylinders in the kitchen is illegal as they are not safe.

The police said they would find out who supplied the cylinder to the housemates and take appropriate action.
