Women commuters in the city may no longer have to suffer at the hands of auto drivers who misbehave with them, with the state government taking steps to provide auto permits to 2,500 women. Speaking to media persons after participating in a programme at Banashankari ward, deputy chief minister and home minister R Ashoka said: “Women have excelled in various domains. Today, they are piloting aircraft. Then why should not the young women get permits to run auto rickshaws? Many women have come forward to operate auto services. We are ready to distribute 2,500 auto permits to women. I wish they make good use of this. Ashoka said a free meal service will be launched for devotees at the Banashankari temple from next month. “The state government has granted `5 crore to the temple. The government has also decided to provide grant for renovation of all the mosques in the Padmanabhanagar Assembly constituency,” he said.

‘Text book error will be rectified’

State primary and secondary education minister Vishveshwar Hegde Kageri has assured a Jain delegation that wrong information regarding Jainism founder in a school text book will be rectified. A delegation comprising Bharatiya Jain Mela president Dharmastala Surendra Kumar and Blossoms school founder D Shashi Kumar met the minister on Thursday and submitted a representation pointing out the mistakes in the class 8 Social Science text book of state syllabus.

On September 4, DNA had carried a story regarding this issue. The text book states that the founder of Jainism Vardhaman Mahaveer was married to Yashodhara. But Jain community leaders contend that it is wrong information.
