In a shocking new low, some students from the Government PU College in Varthur have been able to pass their first PU supplementary examinations by simply reproducing questions in the answer scripts.
That most government run schools and colleges are in doldrums is a known thing, but what you are going to read below will illustrate, in no uncertain terms, that some colleges have hit rock bottom.
In a shocking new low, some students from the Government PU College in Varthur have been able to pass their first PU supplementary examinations by simply reproducing questions in the answer scripts. Yes, as simple as that.
The answer scripts of some students contain nothing but questions. DNA, through an RTI, procured the answer scripts of five such students who passed in history for writing nothing.
The case of Ranjith Kumar is telling: He seems to have barely broken a sweat, if one goes by his answer script. Ranjith (register number 1290) had secured 06 out of 100 and failed in the March 2011 main examinations.
He then appeared for the supplementary exam in May 2011 and managed to pass by securing 46 marks; of course, he just wrote questions.
His answer script, which looks the question paper, is full of howlers.
Sample this: When asked to name the four Vedas, Ranjith names 'Ayurveda' as one of the Vedas; he gets the spellings of the two Vedas wrong. But, incredibly, the evaluator has awarded him marks for this blooper.
The credit for this, obviously, goes to some benevolent evaluators; in Ranjith’s case, it looks like K Krishnappa is the culprit.
According to college authorities, Krishnappa, a history lecturer, was the one who evaluated the scripts. Krishnappa, who was posted to Varthur college three years ago, has taught and has been evaluating papers for the past 14 years.
When DNA contacted Krishnappa, he justified his actions by citing humanitarian grounds. “Sometimes, students come to us and request us to pass them; in such cases, we need to help them and that is what I did,” was what lecturer told DNA.
Krishnappa also claimed that lecturers, sometimes, are pressurised by higher authorities to pass students who have failed in one particular subject but have passed in others.
But even this argument seems fraudulent since the answer scripts of students, which are in DNA’s possession, shows that these boys had failed in other subjects as well.
Not just for writing questions, students have been awarded marks even for wrong answers which are devoid of any basic grammar.
