Bangalore’s car scene just got sportier on Monday with the inauguration of Porsche’s seventh showroom in India and third this year.
Porsche has upped the game in the segment and car lovers and speed enthusiasts can now own the Boxster, Cayman, 911, Panamera or Cayenne without the hassle of importing one. Some 4,000 square feet of pure ecstasy and a team of dedicated staff will ensure a buyer has the complete experience of these amazing cars. In addition, Porsche India has set up a service facility (of about 7,000 sq ft) on Hosur Road. In South India, Bangalore gets the showroom after Chennai and Hyderabad.
At the inauguration of the showroom, Ashish Chordia, director, Porsche India, said: “We see a greater role and more volumes in India for Porsche.”
Replying to a question about the market share of the company vis-a-vis other brands, Chordia said: “We can’t really compare with others because we have a limited product range,” and added: “We sold 134 cars in 2010 and have done 500 cars in 2011. There is no particular benchmark set for Bangalore but we hope to reach the three-digit mark in two years.”
In reply to another question about how many Porsches there could already be on Bangalore’s roads, Chordia estimated that it could be about 70 with about 50%-60% of them being Cayennes. He also downplayed fears that the German carmaker’s products will have trouble negotiating the somewhat speed hump-infested city roads.
All Porsche cars can be made to order as per individual specifications and it would take roughly three to eight months for delivery, depending on the model.
The Porsche range will cost between Rs65 lakh for the Cayenne diesel and Rs2.7 crore for the Panamera Turbo S.
