How a court order made Krishnaiah Shetty faint

Shetty fainted as the Lok Ayukta court pronounced its order.

How does one evade arrest? Some feign illness; others, like former minister Krishnaiah Shetty, decide to collapse in the court hall.

Both ingenuous and foolish, Shetty’s superbly-timed dramatic collapse in the court hall added colour to a day that had already witnessed much action. Shetty collapsed after an arrest warrant was issued against him leading to chaos in the court hall.

As Shetty collapsed, lawyers and the litigants ran to help him. Shetty replied saying he was suffering from low blood pressure.

This shock-and-awe moment led to talk of whether Shetty was really sick or was he feigning sickness in the court hall.

This is not the first time that an accused has either fainted or complained of ill-health with an aim to avoid landing behind bars.

However, Judge N K Sudhindra Rao, seeing the chaos, ordered that Shetty be sent to judicial custody in an ambulance.

The ambulance arrived at the premises of the Lok Ayukta court and took him to jail in the afternoon.

The court, taking cognisance of Shetty’s hypertension and low blood pressure problems, directed the jail authorities to provide him with necessary medical treatment during his stay in the jail.
