Polaris India Pvt Ltd on Friday introduced its range of all-terrain vehicle products here and it will be sold through Bangalore dealer AKB Motors. The Polaris range was launched in other cities earlier, after the American company entered India in August.

The cheapest vehicle will cost about `2.86 lakh and goes all the way up to `12 lakh. The first product line to be up for sale is the Sportsman all-terrain vehicles and they can be driven through rain and snow, flat and hilly terrain. It is available in the premium, double-seater and value ranges.

The second product is the Ranger RZR side-by-side. They are sport utility off-roaders for off-road activities. They are available in four variants: Only Trail (for hilly/mountain terrain), Only Sport (for dune-surfing and riding in open spaces), Only 4 Seat (world’s first 4-seater side by side) and Only Xtreme (premium performance under all conditions).

The third is their range of snowmobiles and the other one is the range of multi-utility vehicles and they are designed to provide maximum power, durability, higher loading capacity and superior manoeuvrability.

Polaris managing director Pankaj Dubey said that the company’s range of vehicles can be used by  police and defence forces, and in agriculture, construction, tourism, forest patrolling, mining, adventure and coastal patrolling and beach rescue. The engine capacities of various vehicles ranges from 49 to 900cc.

“The products that will be made available in India will be imported as completely built units,” said Dubey.

On how long it will take for deliveries, he said: “It depends on the model. It could take just three weeks for something that is in stock, while for others it could take say four or five months if it has to be imported.”

Dubey went on to explain that these vehicles do not need to be registered as they are not meant to be driven on city roads. “But having a licence is better, particularly because it will help if one knows how to drive. For the youth models, a licence is not needed.”

As of now, there are five dealers across the country and five more will be operational in a few months.
