The squabbles within the BJP has raised the hopes of JD(S) to recover lost ground in the next assembly elections.

JD(S) leaders from 30 districts will meet under the leadership of former prime minister HD Deve Gowda in Bangalore on Wednesday to chalk out an action plan to ensure that the party is back to power after the next assembly elections. Party state president HD Kumaraswamy, JD(S) legislature party leader HD Revanna and party legislators will participate in the conclave.

“The top leadership will deliberate on the course of action to strengthen the party. The meeting is also expected to finalise the party’s candidate for Chikmagalur-Udupi Lok Sabha by-poll,” JD(S) secretary and MLC YSV Datta said.

Leaders will discuss plans to endear the party, which is considered a rural-based one, to urban voters, too. The conclave will also focus on attracting the youth towards the party. The reports of sandalwood star Pooja Gandhi joining the party and HD Kumaraswamy’s son Nikhil Gowda being made the general secretary of JD (S) youth wing are seen as part of the party’s plans to make it the first choice for the youth. The meeting is likely to decide the date for induction of Pooja Gandhi into the party.

“Kumaraswamy is seen as the most popular leader among the youth, though our political opponents are not accepting it. Now the induction of people like Pooja Gandhi will bring a touch of glamour, too,” Datta said.
