Karnataka’s transport system to deploy more buses for Dasara
It has also procured 20 Merc-Benz Airavat Club Class buses and has introduced semi-deluxe buses called Vaibhav.
Karnataka’s transport system is trying to cash in on the tourism season. Keeping in mind the Dasara festivities, KSRTC has doled out almost 500 services. It has rolled out a new pass for continuous travel for seven days called the Freedom Pass for ordinary and semi-deluxe services.
It has also procured 20 Merc-Benz Airavat Club Class buses and has introduced semi-deluxe buses called Vaibhav, which is identical to Rajahamsa to provide better transportation for people during the festive season.
To attract tourists for Mysore Dasara, KSRTC will begin special service buses from many places to Mysore. It has announced four packages, which will be extended to both ordinary and semi-deluxe services. Jala Darshini (visit to water falls and lakes), Giri Darshini (visit to popular hill stations), Nagara Darshini (Mysore city rounds), and Devi Darshini (temple visits) will begin from September 28 and will continue till October 10.
Normally, the KSRTC plies services to about 72 destinations in six neighbouring states, including Maharashtra, Goa, Tirupathi, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry and other places of historical and religious significance.
Both air-conditioned and semi-deluxe buses will ply towards these destinations.
BMTC has only one tourist bus known as Bangalore Rounds. This bus takes people to some of the most important places in the city, such as Iskcon Temple, Tipu Sultan’s Palace, Bull Temple, Ragigudda Temple, Meenakshi Temple, Bannerghatta National Park, Visvesvaraya Technological Museum, Vidhana Soudha, Cubbon Park, and Ulsoor Lake.
A senior official in the corporation said that business is not doing all great. The corporation is also not able to give attention to tourism services. He also said that the bus has to struggle through the city traffic to take tourists to city’s landmarks.
And in the end, it is not able to take them to all the destinations. This is why tourists opt for private vehicles to take them around. Now, the big question is: What lies ahead for Karnataka Tourism?
