The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce on Monday withdrew its petition in the state high court against the ban.

In a surprising move, the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) on Monday withdrew its petition in the state high court against the ban on Mani Ratnam’s much-hyped film Raavan, that bombed at the box office, without citing any reasons.

KFCC had filed a petition on June 21 against Anil Ambani’s Reliance Big Entertainment (RBEL) for releasing the two versions of the film — Raavan in Hindi, and Ravanan in Tamil — in 36 theatres across the state, against the original resolution of releasing it in not more than 24 theatres in Karnataka.

It had also challenged the June 18 order of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) in the high court, which allowed the screening of Raavan in the state. The interim order to ban the screening of the film had been stayed following a petition filed by RBEL.

When contacted, KFCC president Basant Kumar Patil declined to comment on the withdrawal of the petition.
