A day after Bescom told its employees to log on to Facebook, its head made an appeal to them on the social network to prevent power cuts in city this summer.

“My dear colleagues, this summer, we’ll not have load shedding. We’ll provide enough power. No feeder shall be opened out (switched off). We will ensure this by treating all consumers equally. No consumer will be allowed to draw more energy than what he/she is eligible of (sanctioned),” wrote P Manivannan, managing director of Bescom, on the Facebook.

He said overdrawing would lead to overloading the feeder.  “Check the sanctioned load and the actual load for all heavy consumers. Check the lines. Check everything to ensure that there is no load restriction/shedding,” he said.

Informing his team that there will be a meeting on January 18 (Wednesday), he said the talks would focus on limits for each circle or sub-station.

“I am confident that our officers are capable of that! In tom (tomorrow’s) meeting, we will be fixing the limits for each circle/division/sub-station/feeder,” he said.

Encouraging his colleagues, he said the hard work by his colleagues would ensure that their goal is achieved.

“Our valuable consumers will be delighted. Let’s do it! I wish you all the best,” he added.

Close to 30 Bescom officials ‘liked’ their MD’s comment and said they would ensure that there are no power cuts this summer.

“If this is achieved, all assistant executive engineers and assistant engineers and junior engineers will be free from protests and lock outs. Usually, these five months are horrible. Thank you sir! Please concentrate on rural areas,” an engineer wrote on Facebook.
Another employee said: “Good idea sir, but I’m not clear about monitoring of overdraw of load by every consumer.”
Many others felt it was a good move which would help consumers as well as Bescom employees.
